Why World Vision is in Myanmar

Myanmar continues to push forward in the midst of armed political turmoil that has wreaked havoc on its economy, agriculture, and overall safety. This instability, along with natural disasters — floods, droughts, fires, and earthquakes — has taken a toll on the country.

The economy suffered due to high inflation and currency depreciation and shortages. The country experienced a shortage of goods and services like fuel, electricity, and internet access. Even more devastating, over 2 million children suffered from acute malnutrition and over 13 million people experienced food insecurity, with millions also in need of clean water and other basics. Political upheaval and violence destroyed property and displaced many from their homes. Additionally, children in these conflict areas were prevented from safely accessing school.

In response, World Vision teams provided food, health and nutrition interventions, education programming, child protection, and livelihood support for 1.4 million people. Over 170,000 people received training on healthy feeding practices and nutrition for pregnant mothers and children under 5 years old. Hundreds of health committees are improving communities’ health standards, and nearly 34,000 parents and caregivers were equipped with child protection resources.

We never give up on people

World Vision child sponsorship looks at all the things that prevent children from surviving and thriving in their community, and then works with that community to bring all the pieces of the puzzle together to build a better life for all children. For sponsors, it’s a personal way to show God’s love to a child in need in a life-changing way.
