Our hearts are heavy as we witness the devastation from Hurricane Harvey in Southeast Texas and Louisiana and as Hurricane Irma continues its path through the Atlantic as a Category 5 hurricane.
Our prayers go out to people affected by the flooding in Texas, and we also covet the prayers and support of our partners as we walk alongside families on the road to recovery — a journey that has only just begun.
But this summer has been a particularly hard season for flooding around the world, not just in the United States. As World Vision responds to the critical needs of flood-affected families in the U.S., we also continue to respond and pray for those impacted in Bangladesh, India, Sierra Leone, Nepal, and China.
Journey with us in photos as we look at how heavy rains, monsoons, tropical storms, and flash floods have impacted people around the world.

![When World Vision staffer Nissi Thapa visited villages in Morang, Nepal, a month ago, she met “cheerful faces, showing [her] their thatched mud-mortar huts.” When she returned to assess the damage of massive flooding, she found desolation instead. Homes were swept away — the remnants mangled and buried in the sand. “The water came in like a tsunami,” recalls Savitri (right); “I am amazed that I made it out alive.” She now lives in a makeshift shelter with her family of eight. ![Freetown: In a matter of minutes, 11-year-old Santigie and his 9-year-old sister, Samma, lost their family forever. When torrential rains caused a mudslide and flash floods that wiped out part of Freetown on Monday, Aug. 14, their father, mother, and two older siblings were swept away. Santigie and Samma only survived because their father carried them to safety before returning to the house for their birth certificates. It was then that they watched the water carry him away. “Our mum was first to go missing in the waters. We were crying but we had hope and courage our dad was alive [but then] the water became very rough,’’ shares a teary-eyed Santigie.
