Day 1

Welcome to your first day! Here’s your challenge: Skip lunch!

Ekai’s Story

Matthew 25 Challenge: Day 1

Welcome to your first day! Here’s your challenge: Skip lunch!

Ekai’s Story

Ekai is a 12-year-old boy living in Kenya. He experiences hunger every day. Today, when you are feeling hungry at lunchtime, look around and consider how much food is available to you when you need it. Pray for kids like Ekai who don’t have enough to eat.

One of the only meals Ekai’s family has is tea. During your fast, make a pot of tea for your family and watch this video together.

Reflect

Tonight, as you break your fast, reflect about the experience, either on your own or with others:

  • How did you feel today?
  • While you were fasting, could you concentrate?
  • What was the hardest part of the day?

Pray

Pray for kids who don’t have enough to eat, that they’ll get the food they need to be healthy.

Day 2

Welcome back! No morning coffee today — your challenge is to drink only water.

Cheru’s Story

Cheru is only 5 years old, and every day she has to walk 6 kilometers to collect dirty water in her mom’s tea kettle. It’s the biggest container she can carry.

Do you have a tea kettle at home? Fill it up with water and see how heavy it is for Cheru to carry every day.

Reflect

Tonight, reflect on your challenge of drinking only water …

  • Did you miss having other beverages to drink? Get a caffeine headache?
  • Was the water you drank clean?
  • How would your life be different if you only had dirty water to drink?

Pray

Pray for everyone to get clean water, and for all to know the living water of Jesus Christ.

Day 3

Today we’ll be learning about one of the world’s most pressing crises – the refugee crisis. Tonight, your challenge is to sleep on the floor. Once your family’s gathered on the floor for the night, take a photo and post it on social media using the hashtag #M25Challenge!

Ali’s Story

This is Ali. He’s 13 years old and had to flee his home because of war. Now, he lives in Lebanon with his parents and four siblings.

Watch his story in 360 degrees. (Click and drag the video to see what Ali sees.)

Reflect

Reflect on the experience of refugees around the world as you lie down on the floor to sleep tonight …

  • If you had to flee like Ali, what would you miss most about your home?
  • What would you take with you?
  • How would it feel to be a stranger in a new place?

Pray

Pray for children like Ali who don’t have homes, or are strangers. Pray for all to feel welcome.

Sneak peek of tomorrow’s challenge:

Set out your clothes for tomorrow — you’ll be wearing the same outfit you wore today.

Day 4

Matthew 25 Challenge: Day 4

How’s your back feeling this morning? Today’s challenge might make you even more uncomfortable – wear the same clothes you wore yesterday. Post your same-clothes selfie on social media with the hashtag #M25Challenge and tell your friends why you’re doing this challenge.

Choolwe’s story

This is Choolwe (on the right, holding the baby) and her family in Zambia. They don’t have a lot to wear. In fact, Choolwe can only wash her family’s clothes about twice a month — because it’s a 2-hour roundtrip to collect water. If you’re feeling awkward and uncomfortable today, think about the simple luxury of having plenty of clothes and the means to wash them, and pray for those who lack those options.

Reflect

Tonight, reflect on your challenge …

  • Did you feel uncomfortable wearing your clothes twice?
  • Did anyone comment about it? What was that like?
  • How much clothing is in your closet? What if you could only do the wash 1-2x/month?

Pray

Pray for children who don’t have all the basics they need, like clothing. Pray for them to stay warm and protected.

Day 5

This might be a tough one. Your challenge for today is to reach out to someone you know who is sick or imprisoned by something. Who are you going to reach out to?

Latha’s Story

Meet Latha. She was forced to quit school to work when she was young because of her family’s situation:

Day 6

Almost there! Today, your challenge is to go on a prayer walk to reflect on Jesus’ call in Matthew 25. If you did the challenge with others, invite them on your walk!

This week you’ve heard a lot from kids who don’t have food or clean water. Let us tell you about a few people who have gotten those things and whose lives are changed because of it.

Rosemary is the one in the center being a goofball — she’s 9 years old, lives in Zambia, and dreams of being a chef. Her grandfather told one of our staff members, “Our children and grandchildren are now able to dream more and more because there is a lot of hope in what World Vision has done for us.”

This is 12-year-old Dulamsuren in Mongolia, who is sponsored by a caring family. She wants to be a teacher! What do you want to be when you grow up? (Adults can answer this question, too!)

Meet 5-year-old Kamama, who now only has to walk a short distance to get CLEAN water! Praise God!

Tomorrow you’ll get your final challenge. At church this weekend, celebrate the challenges you’ve conquered and see how you can follow Jesus’ call in Matthew 25. You won’t want to miss it!

Day 7

Thank you for taking on the Matthew 25 Challenge! We pray that this experience was transformational for you and your family. As you consider how God is calling you to respond to Matthew 25, please consider sponsoring a child in need. Through World Vision child sponsorship, you can live out Matthew 25 by helping to change the life of a special boy or girl.

When you become a sponsor, you get to connect with one child through letters and photos, but also partner with your child’s community to overcome their challenges. Sponsorship helps them get long-term access to essentials like clean water, nutritious food, healthcare, education, protection from exploitation, economic opportunity, and much more, all with the love of Jesus.

Show God’s love to a child in need today!
