WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 27, 2018) — Upon passage of the PEPFAR Extension Act of 2018 by the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, World Vision issued the following statement from President Rich Stearns:
“Since 2003, PEPFAR has received bipartisan support from Congress and the results of the program are astounding. Before PEPFAR, just 50,000 people with HIV/AIDS were receiving treatment and today that number exceeds 14 million. More than 2 million babies have been born HIV-free to HIV-positive mothers, and critical services to mitigate the physical, emotional, and economic impacts of HIV/AIDS have been provided to 12.2 million vulnerable children, many living without one or both parents. Faith communities and partners, like World Vision, have been proud to support PEPFAR and to partner with the U.S. government in this critical, life-saving work.
We are grateful for the leadership of Representatives Chris Smith, Barbara Lee, Ed Royce, Elliot Engel and Betty McCollum, and to Senators Bob Corker and Bob Menendez for advancing the reauthorization of PEPFAR and for their support of critical PEPFAR services for children.”
