Albania

Albania experienced a challenging year economically and socially, especially in vulnerable communities. It remains one of the poorest countries in Europe. The COVID-19 pandemic and war in Ukraine disrupted supply chains, bringing uncontrolled inflation. Worsening economic conditions caused an alarming increase in migration out of Albania.

The difficulties of the past few years have taken their toll on mental health. Communities experienced a rise in domestic violence, and children continued to suffer from exploitation and violence within their homes and communities. These forms of abuse are often culturally accepted.

In response, World Vision helped equip children and families with practical life skills in decision-making, interpersonal relationships, and goal setting. We also helped strengthen the child protection system by working with parents and caregivers to prevent violence. In 2022, 422 parents participated in positive parenting events, and 1,381 children and adolescents gained leadership and job skills through 87 IMPACT groups. Additionally, over 7,300 children were impacted by improved educational infrastructure across 17 schools. Agricultural support in the form of trainings, seedlings, fertilizer, and other resources gave hundreds of farmers helpful traction for future income.
