Last year, members of the management team at VEKA—the Fombell, PA–based supplier of vinyl window and door profile solutions—participated in a three-day off-site event in Pittsburgh, PA. The group’s Strategy Team meeting has become a tradition at mid-year point for the last six years.
A highlight of the 2016 meeting was a team-building segment where 24 VEKA management members volunteered at the Sewickley, PA complex of World Vision, which for over eight years has been the charity partner of the American Architectural Manufacturers Association.
Four tasks were set for the VEKA volunteers at World Vision’s Global Distribution Center: sorting and packing articles of clothing to be shipped to other countries; hanging OSB panels as improvements to the warehouse; painting the finished walls; and finally, installing a deck and pergola, using VEKA Outdoor Living Products material, for the employees of World Vision to enjoy during break time.
VEKA North America CEO Joe Peilert kicked off the day, commenting, “It’s great to start our strategy meeting by focusing on something greater than our company, our departments, and ourselves.”
“World Vision is a difference-maker for people in need around the globe, and we are proud to make a small contribution to this effort today.”
At the end of the day, with all tasks successfully completed, World Vision’s Corporate Engagement Director, Mary Garcia, thanked the VEKA team: “Not only is today one of the biggest highlights of my week, but in my tenure with World Vision, this is the first group to volunteer who left behind improvements for our facility and a gift for our enjoyment. Our hope is that your staff enjoyed being here as much as we enjoyed having you.”
