Saba, 14, studies at a school in a refugee camp far from the home she fled. Her family once lived comfortably in El Geneina, Sudan — until conflict forced them to flee to Chad with nothing but their lives. Now, Saba continues to develop her love of languages and dreams of becoming a flight engineer.
Why World Vision is in Chad
The people of Chad faced three major connected challenges in 2020: chronic food insecurity worsened by irregular weather, conflict in neighboring countries, and weak healthcare systems faced with a pandemic and local epidemics like measles. An estimated 5.5 million people need humanitarian assistance to reinforce their livelihoods and fight poverty as they struggle to feed their families. On top of Chadians' vulnerabilities, hundreds of thousands of refugees from Sudan, Libya, the Central African Republic, and other countries came to Chad seeking safety from conflict at home, further straining the country's resources. And the COVID-19 pandemic created pressure on Chad's healthcare and disrupted vital services like education and trade. Thanks to the support of partners, World Vision focused on boosting health, nutrition, food security, education, child protection, and clean water for thousands of kids and families in need. Over 75,000 people were equipped with clean water and sanitation access to help them stay healthy during the pandemic, and thousands of kids received mental health support. The most vulnerable households were reached with resources to help them weather the year's challenges.
We never give up on people
World Vision child sponsorship looks at all the things that prevent children from surviving and thriving in their community, and then works with that community to bring all the pieces of the puzzle together to build a better life for all children. For sponsors, it’s a personal way to show God’s love to a child in need in a life-changing way.
