Why World Vision is in Mozambique

Mozambique has struggled to recover amid widespread violence which has harmed people, displaced families, and disrupted education.

Over the past year, multiple Mozambican communities have suffered significant loss due to violence. Various militant groups burned homes and attacked families. Many people were injured, and some kidnapped or killed. To ensure their safety and well-being, the affected families—including World Vision staff—were moved to safer neighboring districts. This displacement has hindered children’s routines, education, and sense of stability.

After relocating to a safer area, World Vision partnered with local authorities to monitor children in our sponsorship programs. Once safety and security measures were reestablished, World Vision started encouraging parents to allow their children to return to school and other activities. In addition, World Vision has met a variety of other needs: More than 500 children were given access to birth registration, more than 3,300 people have access to clean water due to newly constructed boreholes, and an average of 182 people per day are able to use newly installed male and female toilets at a health facility.

We never give up on people

World Vision child sponsorship looks at all the things that prevent children from surviving and thriving in their community, and then works with that community to bring all the pieces of the puzzle together to build a better life for all children. For sponsors, it’s a personal way to show God’s love to a child in need in a life-changing way.
