Why World Vision is in Mali

Mali experienced various armed conflicts, extreme weather challenges, and political instability in 2023. In addition, a large portion of the country struggled with food insecurity.

Internal armed conflicts in many vulnerable regions resulted in over 377,000 people being displaced from their homes. Various political tensions throughout the country led to deteriorating security situations. Tragically, 1.2 million people are also in need of urgent food assistance due to widespread food insecurity.

In response, World Vision has greatly increased its financial support for vulnerable communities in Mali. In 2023, over 1 million people were equipped with access to food, water, improved sanitation and hygiene, and protection through various programs and response initiatives. There is a targeted priority to address the food security and nutrition needs of over 1.1 million people, especially in places where children are facing severe malnutrition. Additionally, we’re building peace and resilience in conflict-affected communities and strengthening local partners to reach vulnerable people with the resources they need.

We never give up on people

World Vision child sponsorship looks at all the things that prevent children from surviving and thriving in their community, and then works with that community to bring all the pieces of the puzzle together to build a better life for all children. For sponsors, it’s a personal way to show God’s love to a child in need in a life-changing way.
