World Vision brought Romanian families together in a cooperative that turned the community’s overabundance of eggplant and peppers — formerly used as animal fodder — into jars of tasty spread called zacusca that they could sell for income year-round, not just at harvest time.

Pupusas — thick, grilled flatbreads usually stuffed with cheese, beans, or pork — are a staple in Central America. The dish originated in El Salvador and western Honduras. They’re similar to Mexican gorditas and Venezuelan arepas. A few simple ingredients combine to create a flavorful meal.

India has one of the highest child malnutrition rates in the world. World Vision’s helping communities there grow vegetable gardens so they have access to nutrient-rich foods. We’re also training mothers how to cook dishes that better nourish their children so fewer kids are at risk of stunting and wasting.
